22. Gong bath

I barely ever get a good nights sleep. It's a product of Parkinson's and my serious issues with FOMO. Because of this i'm not great at relaxing, permanently bristling with adrenaline and low-level exhaustion.

With Sarah Waite

Founder of Sēing, Sarah is a qualified psychologist, coach, hypnotherapist, meditation teacher, and vibro-acoustics (sound healing / gong) practitioner. She’s been meditating since her teens, and even (accidentally) lived with nuns. Over the years, she’s taught, worked with hundreds of people and companies, in sessions, events, talks and workshops, all over the world. I met Sarah at an event I was sharing my story at and loved her warmth and openness.

I had no idea what to expect from the session having never tried anything like this before. Sarah first showed me all the instruments she would have at her fingertips during the session including 2 massive gongs and some huge condor feathers.

Sarah handed me some drumsticks and suggested I try the gongs for myself and I think we bonded because before I knew it I was sobbing. Such a beautiful warm, hug of a sound was bouncing all around me. And it loosened some tears I had been pushing down for a while.

Then it was time. Snuggled up on the sofa, blanketed like a burrito, I was bathed in sound from the gong and slipped deeper and deeper into relaxation. I have very few specific memories from the session other than my brain trying to make the noise into voices and getting a little tummy bubble of glee when the giant condor feather swooshed above my head.

Sarah is very good at this (she's been trained and mentored by some of the best) and the way she layers sound is masterful. After what felt like ages she brought me back awake gently and I felt relaxed and refreshed when I opened my eyes. Like i'd had a weekend lie-in or a spa day, my normally shaky hands were still and the stiffness in my feet was replaced with tingles. A massive success!

'When you're teaching, I love the connection you get with the person/people you're with, having that time, curiosity and growth together. Those moments of success, when something clicks. And teaching helps you deepen your understanding, passion, practice and commitment too. It always feels like an honour. People think of teaching as something you do or give, but it gives you just as much back, it's so rewarding.' Sarah.
